Attack on Titan Season 1 Review

Introduction

Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin, is a popular Japanese anime series from the studio Wit Studio. It is based on the manga series of the same name by Hajime Isayama. The first season of Attack on Titan consists of 25 episodes and aired from April to September in 2013. In this review, I’ll be discussing my thoughts on the first season.

Plot

The story takes place in a world where humanity lives inside cities surrounded by enormous walls due to the Titans, giant humanoid creatures who devour humans seemingly without reason. The story primarily revolves around Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert, who join the military to fight against these Titans after witnessing the devastating destruction the Titans have caused in their lives. The plot delves into mystery, politics, and exploration of the world outside the walls of their city.

Characters

The main characters are complex and have a realistic range of emotions, making them easy to relate to. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin’s development is well-crafted throughout the first season, and their personal stories add depth to the overarching plot. The supporting cast is equally well-developed, with each character having their motivations, fears, and desires.

Animation and Sound

The animation of the first season is top-notch, with fluid fight scenes and impressive attention to detail in character design and background art. The sound design is also excellent with a memorable opening theme song and a soundtrack that sets the mood for the intense and emotional scenes.

Overall Thoughts

Attack on Titan’s first season is a well-rounded anime, with a compelling plot, well-crafted characters, and high-quality animation and sound. There are a few pacing issues where the story slows down, but it is usually followed by a payoff to keep the viewer engaged. The first season leaves the viewer with a cliffhanger that will make them eagerly anticipate the second season.

In conclusion, I highly recommend Attack on Titan’s first season for its blend of action, politics, and mystery. The anime has been popular worldwide due to its gripping story, engaging characters, and phenomenal animation and sound, and it’s easy to see why.
